What is Overwatch in CS2? How to Avoid It?
OVERWATCH in CS2 (The most feared manual BAN)
First of all, if you get a VAC ban from OVERWATCH, you must know that there is no way to remove them.
This happened because you received a significant amount of in-game reports and the match was reviewed by Overwatch Investigators.
To avoid going to OVERWATCH, you must be subtle.
Overwatch bans are non-negotiable and Steam Support cannot lift or reduce them.
To know the exact reason for your VAC BAN, open CS2, and once you enter, you will see the RED bar at the top indicating that you were banned on CS2 servers. Hovering your mouse there will tell you the reason.
What is Overwatch?
Overwatch is an in-game replay review system that allows the CS:GO community to regulate itself by letting qualified and experienced members called "Investigators" review reports of disruptive behavior, determine the validity of the reports, and apply temporary bans if appropriate. Investigators will be shown a replay of a randomly selected eight-round segment from an accused player's match. Their task is to determine whether or not that player has committed any offenses during that replay. Suspected players are referred to as "The Suspect," and other players' names, as well as all text and voice communications, are omitted. The investigator is expected to make a determination based solely on the actions of the suspect.
How does Overwatch work?
- Overwatch investigators have an active Overwatch button in the main menu, indicating they have a pending case to evaluate.
- The investigators can then choose to participate by watching a replay (worth eight rounds or about ten minutes) and selecting a verdict.
- If the investigators collectively agree that an offense has occurred, an Overwatch ban will be issued.
How does a player get investigated by Overwatch?
The system contains replays of players whose report pattern exceeds or outpaces their peers. They may have a sudden spike in reports, or they may have slowly built up many reports over a long period of time.
A player may also appear in a test case replay that previously received a "Not Guilty" verdict. These are randomly inserted into a load of cases and are used exclusively to help the system score the investigators.
What happens at the end of a case?
For each case, if the system determines the collective judgment of the investigators overwhelmingly aligns on a single verdict, the case will be closed, and all decisions rendered will determine the final verdict. If the verdicts show the evidence is insufficient or inconclusive, the case will be dismissed.
Overwatch found me guilty. What does that mean?
Convicted by Overwatch - Minorly Disruptive: Players who receive this message are found guilty of griefing will suffer a ban from CS:GO of at least 30 days. Players receiving a second Overwatch conviction for griefing will be permanently banned from playing CS:GO.
Convicted by Overwatch - Majorly Disruptive: Players who receive this message are found guilty of cheating and will be permanently banned from CS:GO. These players are not allowed to trade or access the CS:GO marketplace and must create a new account and buy CS:GO again if they want to keep playing.
LINKED ACCOUNT VAC BAN
(You have been banned from playing on secure servers due to an infraction on this or a linked account)
Beyond OVERWATCH, we should mention linked account BANs, which can also happen to you.
This happens for several reasons:
- By registering another account with the same phone number for Steam Guard. If an account gets banned, all accounts with that phone number will get a VAC ban.
- The same happens with accounts matching the same email.
- Using the same credit card? There is no certainty here, some users report it happening while others had no problems, but keeping it in mind is good practice.
- Buying accounts from untrustworthy sellers. As you may know, the market for CS2 Steam accounts has always been huge, but lately, some users faced problems buying accounts mass-generated and "Vertigo Boosted". These accounts end up linked to one another.
Imagine a seller generates 10 accounts at once and boosts them all hooked together via Vertigo Boost. A user buys one of these and uses it with detectable cheats or just goes full careless rage mode. When Valve drops a BAN on that account, the other 9 also fall for a "linked account ban"... and unfortunately, you just happened to buy one of those remaining 9 and hadnโt even used it yet. You fell into a VAC BAN through no fault of your own.
BE CAREFUL BUYING ACCOUNTS. Because of this, we at Goowned have stopped selling third-party accounts.
